Results of a Statista survey conducted in 2025 show that 50 percent of Indians find it important to make their home environmentally friendly. This made India the second country most concerned with the environmental impact of homes (second only to South Africa, not included in our infographic, with 52 percent of respondents) out of the 32 countries included in our study. Indians were much more likely to care about making their homes environmentally friendly than people in China (36 percent), France (26 percent) or Japan (12 percent).
Recent data published by independent energy think tank Ember shows that India grew its renewable energy generation by 98 TWh in 2025, twice as much as its power demand. India also achieved the world's third-largest increase in solar power generation (+53 TWh), which is in part due to a government initiative launched in 2024 offering subsidies of up to 40 percent of the cost to households to install rooftop solar panels.
