The Rapid Growth of China's Movie Industry

The rapid rise of the movie industry in China is illustrated in this infographic using data from iResearch. However, while the domestic box office remains the most important revenue stream, growth here has been slower in recent years than that from overseas combined with other sources such as advertising revenue, copyright revenue and derived product revenue.

As iResearch notes, the latter will be a key segment going forward: "The increasing cooperation of the movie industry and other entertainment industry will enhance the IP-integration effect and is expected to cast a positive impact on the sales of derived products. It is estimated that the share of derived product sales will reach 15.9% in 2020, and this segment will become the second largest revenue source for the movie industry".
